What are the duties of a Police Officer (Assigned as Evidence Technician)?
Police Officers assigned as Evidence Technicians are primarily responsible for collecting, documenting, preserving, and ensuring the proper disposition of evidence at crime scenes. They work within the Forensic Services Division and perform a variety of tasks including making notes, taking photographs, and securing biological materials.
What are the eligibility requirements for applying for the Evidence Technician position?
Applicants must be sworn members below the rank of sergeant, have a minimum of three years of continuous service with the Chicago Police Department, and possess an acceptable disciplinary and attendance record among other criteria.
How do I apply for the position?

What is the selection process for becoming an Evidence Technician?
The selection process includes a Written Practical Examination based on a recommended reading list. Candidates must meet the eligibility requirements and will be notified via Department e-mail about the examination details.
What if I am unable to attend the scheduled examination?
Candidates who are late or fail to appear for the scheduled examination will be disqualified and will not be rescheduled.
